September Favorites

Hey Gang!

Can you believe October is here already?! Not that I’m complaining, I’m all about that spooky ness, can’t wait to start wearing costumes to work, putting together costumes for the blog, and just all around Halloween fun. Before we get there though, I have to talk about all the fun stuff I did and loved in the month of September! September wasn’t a bad month, I got quite a few things done even if they weren’t all for the blog.

Going to Renaissance Festival: I’d been to the festival before when I was much younger but I didn’t really enjoy myself. This year I went in costume, and I had a blast! I have just come to the conclusion that I love being in costume, no matter what the situation may be. I got two really pretty necklaces, I saw two different shows which were pretty awesome, and I took pictures, filmed and got caught in the rain.

Keeping up with Outfit Posts: I may not have done any more on the blog itself, but I’ve been pretty consistent with them on Instagram, so I’m going to give myself a pat on my back. For the month of September I’ve almost got 8!

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Trailer: The Trailer dropped this month, and It was everything I was hoping for. I made a video, so I won’t go into too much detail, just know I’m excited and will be doing episode reviews after each premiere.

Huge Book Haul: I brought my youtube back to life, by filming the books I bought in the month of September, I bought more than 15 books in the month, but I only hauled 11. I’ll be showing you the others soon!

Bringing the Youtube back to life: In the Month of September I posted filmed and edited 8 videos and uploaded 4. I’m really proud of how my videos have been looking lately, and I am really liking the new editing. Hope you have to! Don’t forget to subscribe! Shameless Plug!

August Favorites

Hey Gang!

Can you believe it's September already? 2018 is zooming by and I'm so excited about it that I can't stand it. I got a couple of things done in the month of August that I'm pretty excited about and I can't wait to see what September brings.

- Copious amounts of yarn and knitting. I wanted 2018 to be a more creative year, and I definitely did that! In July I finished three projects. Two from a pattern which I couldn't read before! I'm working on a Hooded Cape from We Are Knitters, and it's a lot more involved, I'm halfway through. I finished the cape, and I'm halfway through the hood and all that's left is the ears. This is the biggest project from a pattern I've every attempted so I'm pretty excited! My dad picked up some yarn at a sale, and I'm literally swimming in wool, I shouldn't have to pick up yarn for a year, I'm not exaggerating either.

- Bringing back Outfit Posts. Boy Wonder and I went to the movies, and I had him take some pictures. So I started taking pictures almost every day since, I think I'm finally ready to start doing style posts again, I really missed them.

- Starting to collect books again: Over the past couple of months, I've been collecting bookshelves, and if you're going to buy shelves, you've got to buy books to go on them! Amazon had a pretty decent deal on a few books I wanted to read, so I ordered about 15 of them! Check out my weekly vlog to see them all. It's been a while since I've actually owned novels, I generally get them from the library, it's nice to start building my own library.

- Discovering The Legend of Luoxiaohei: I'd fallen down the instagram hole and came across these super simple animations of a girl, and her cat and I fell in love. So the Cat, Xiaohei, has a tail that can separate and become their own tiny entities and they get up to different things in every episode, I was so enamored I got the plushie! You should definitely check it out!

- Interviewing Megamite Cosplay: I'm so in love with all of her cosplays! She's the cutest and I was so excited about having her on the blog, click here to read her interview!

July Favorites

 Hey Gang!

July was Over so fast, and now that  August is here, I guess I'm a little late for July favorites. That's okay though because that just means I'm two months closer to Halloween and I'm over the moon about that. Here are some of the things I loved in July!

-Turning 27: July is my birthday month! I turned 27 this year, and honestly, it was kind of scary. I'm in the latter half of my 20's and I haven't really accomplished anything I originally had wanted to do. So I'm focusing the last three of my 20's on accomplishing my goals. There'll be a post on that later.

- Getting a new Job: I got my first Big girl job this month and I am so ecstatic about it. I'll be a secretary for a huge and wildly Popular Music School in my city. I wanted something office like, and I'll be surrounded by musicians, what more could I want?

- interviewing some awesome ladies: My feature A Chat with, was pretty busy this month! I got to interview Mija Vera, proprietor of Mind - Speaks, a Stationery company. (Fangirls' dream come true) Marie Nguyen, a striking illustrator, and Penelope Bagieou, the illustrator of Brazen, which came out a few months ago!

- For my 27th Birthday, I got my 8th tattoo! I'm always talking about my tattoo list, but to actually start crossing things off the list is crazy to me! My latest tattoo is on the back of my calf and is inspired by Papermoon by Tommy Heavenly6. It was the worst as far as pain level of all of my tattoos, but as I continue to explore new territory as I tattoo new areas of my body, that will happen. I'm so in love with it, and I'm already ready for #9! I'll write up an ink adventure soon about it.

- I finished two books this month! I've hopped back onto the audiobook train. I love to listen to music when I work, but listening to an audiobook, kind of distracts me, so I can really only listen to them when I'm driving and when I'm playing video games. I was on Overdrive looking for something but came across Dead and Breakfast by Kate Kingsbury and fell in love. I finished it in a day and went back for the second one. I have both of the reviews on Goodreads!

- I made a Facebook Page. I really don't know why it took me so long. I'm at the point of wanting to start building an audience for Nerdette At Large. I love my blog and I'm proud of the content that I create and I want to start sharing it with more people! There's a widget in the sidebar if you'd like to join the fun!

June Favorites

 Hey Gang!

June was a lot slower than May, but I still wasn’t ready for it to be over. I’m excited for next month though because I’ll be turning 27! I’m not sure what I’ll get up to for my birthday but I’m excited to see what July will bring. Here are a few things I loved in June.

- Bee and Puppycat. I'd hear of them before, but it was difficult to find the cartoon, or the comic, so it was just kind of something that I knew of but never got to experience. They popped again a few weeks ago, so I put volume one on hold at my library. Finished that instantly and started to watch the cartoon. I definitely have to say I like the comic WAY more than the cartoon, but I'm still looking forward to their new series. I wrote about the comic if you'd like to read it.

- Traveling to Columbus for a shoot fest. I have an awesome opportunity to head up to Columbus and photograph lots of boudoir models! I can't wait to show you the shenanigans, and its just always super fun hanging out with girls.

- Completing Two Knitting Projects. I finished a watermelon pillow for my sister, whose been asking for one since I was in the 7th grade...I have an issue completing things. I've always been a freeform knitter, and lately I've wanted to start learning how to read a pattern. So I bought needles, yarn, and a book, and I pushed myself to finish a project. I ran into a lot of snaffus but I have something that 9 out of 10 looks like the project, so I'm happy with the result, and I can wear it even though its kind of lumpy so I'll survive.

- Incredibles 2. The Boy Wonder and I went to go see Incredibles 2, and the 14 year wait was so WORTH IT! Everything was perfect and it just picked up from where the first movie left off. I didn't cry, but I definitely enjoyed it. The short before, was beautiful and heartwarming, and I may have teared up a bit while watching it.

- Getting to do a confetti shoot. I was flipping through Youtube, and I came across a video about different ways you can spice up your shoots if they were too bland, and the girl was throwing confetti , and I thought that was fun, so I did it too, and I really liked the way the pictures came out. I love being able to try new things, and thats what photography is all about, experimentation, and I love to experiment.

- A new Tattoo! I finally got another tattoo! My last tattoo was in October, so I was long overdue. I got Pan!c lyrics across the top of my back, and I am so in love! These lyrics really spoke to me and I knew it was something I'd want forever. So I went and got it done, it literally took 30 minutes, and was probably the least painful tattoo so far, so that's a plus.

- Finding Nekoma's Pokemon Comics. I love using instagram to find new creatives, and Nekoama's art is SO FLIPPING ADORABLE, I can't stand it. They do these little Pokemon Comics, that are just so great, and I love the stories surround the pokemon characters that they chose, but I think my favorite is the laid back wartortle and his group of teenage middle starters. Make sure you follow them, so you don't miss out on the awesomeness.

May Favorites

Hey Gang!

May went by in the blink of an eye, someone needs to get that month a speeding ticket, this is getting ridiculous. 2018 is halfway over, where is the time going?! May was a pretty cool month for me. I got to do some pretty cool stuff. Here’s the favorites of the month.

- Finally getting to watch Hotel Transylvania. I've been pretty interested in watching this film after I saw the trailer for the second one, and I just happened upon it at Half Price Books, during their 20% off sale, making it $3, there was no way I could pass it up. I brought it home, watched it and fell in love instantly! Mavis is adorable, but I've got to say I'm in love with the fact that Frankenstein mails himself to the hotel, and the mummy definitely doesn't get enough love.

- Getting to see old friends. My Friend Emily, Drove up to visit family (and see us). We had lunch, went to a comic shop, bought books, and just caught up with each other which is always fun.

- Falling in love with Splatoon 2. I've been playing Splatoon pretty steadily for the past several weeks. I'm currently level 22 and plateauing quickly, It may be my settings, but I seem to always be killed, and it's almost like I've gotten worse, It's gotten to the point, where I've started playing with different weapons because my splat roller has let me down on several occassions. I also stream it on Twitch, if you wanna join.

- Changing my Gamertag.  For the longest time, my gamertag and names in games, had been spoxie, mostly because 9 out of 10 times, there wasn't room for Spokhette. I've been doing that for about 7 years now, and I wanted a change. I'd been watching Teen Wolf, and I'm finishing up Season 6, and they introduced the dread doctors, and I fell in love. My new name is La Bete, which is French for The Beast, and I just think that's so badass, so there it is, that's my gamertag, and the new link for my twitch! Make sure to add me!

- Getting to shoot twice! This month was pretty awesome, I got to photograph twice which is pretty rare, just because everyone is so busy. I did two fashion shoots, one on a bridge and one in Eden Park, because I am determined to see all of that damn park!

- I finished knitting a pillow! At the beginning of the year, I talked about this year being a more creative one, so I bought a knitting book and attempted a hat, it was terrible and I was very aggravated. I thought a good way to ease back into knitting (haven't done it in over a year) would be to do a very easy project, I had some scrap yarn I wasn't using or saving for a big project and I decided to make a very simple All Stockinette stitch pillow. It turned out so well, that I made another one for my sister, and my second attempt at the hat isn't an absolute abomination, so I'd say that my plan worked.

- Falling in love with Battle Chef Brigade. Guys, Battle Chef Brigade is the absolute best. You are Mina, a girl from a small town that wants to be part of the Brigade. That's an army of chefs that battle monsters, take their cut off body parts and then cook them using a 3 by 3 matching system, and whichever chef creates the most appealing dish wins, It's absolutely amazing and addicting and literally, everyone should be playing.

- Being Rini for a day. As much as I love my hair, it's way too much for me to be able to pile on top of my head like usual, so when I halved my ponytails and resembled Chibi Moon, I thought it was pretty cute.

- I drew quite a few things this month. May was Mermay, and although I didn't keep up with the whole month, I drew quite a few things digitally, and I was super happy with them. I think I did 5 mermaids and The Hex Girls (favorite), all on my Ipad Pro.

April Favorites

Hey Gang!

Can you believe it's April is over?! I still have a few more days left on my April challenge but I'm pretty happy with how it worked out. I'm so excited for May because it brings warmer weather "fingers crossed" that it's here to say. Here are a few things I enjoyed last month.

Playing Detective Pikachu: I’ve waited two years for this game to be translated into English so I could play it when Nintendo Direct announced that they were going to be bringing it to the states, I was so excited! I don’t know how I feel about them making a movie, but I guess I’ll take what I can get. I love how gruff Pikachu is and I am so excited to start solving the mysteries that are waiting for me.

Capture Card for Nintendo Switch: I’m having power issues with my modded 3DS, which sucks because the only fix is to replace a part on the motherboard, but the board has been modded, so even if I get it sent in, they’ll just replace the board and I’ll lose the mod. Which sucks, because I spent a good chunk of money on it, so I figured I would buy a capture card for the rest of my systems, and It’s portable! So I can take it with me, and record on the go, with an sd card, and not even need to connect it to the computer it's awesome.

50mm lens for my Pentax: I was on the hunt for a 50mm lens for my canon because I want to practice more portraiture, but they were so expensive and then I found this one for my film camera, and I couldn’t pass it up. I’m working on getting a go pro like camera, that I can put on top, so I can record while I’m out and about, filming off my phone while I photograph is just a bit much.

April Art Challenge: I want 2018 to be a more creative year, and I wanted to get more confident in my art. The only thing artists will tell you is to practice, so I figured drawing something new every day would be a good start. I have a leading ladies bust theme for the month. I’m doing pretty good.

Finished the Old Youtube Backlog: I didn’t want to be Nerdette Minute anymore, and 68 videos later, I was completely rebranded. I edited each video and re-uploaded them, and now that I’m finally finished I can start filming new content and I’m so so excited about it.

Doing more Digital photography: My friend Sheneal has become my partner in crime, and almost every Saturday we go out and explore a new area of the city, I tend to take my film camera out more often, just because of how light it is, but I’ve been determined to take it out more. I even used my 50mm lens which I hadn’t pulled out in forever! I love the way the pictures turned out. I also write a blog about my photography, if you’ve ever been interested. You can find it on the photography page

Doing more Digital artwork: This month I drew my super secret Scooby doo fan art project, I really like them, but they still aren’t finished. I think I’ll scan in my April Art Challenge and paint them digitally.

Sailor Mars Backpack: I’d been looking for Hot Topic’s Sailor Moon bag Merch for quite some time, they had the dresses that looked like the sailor suits, but they weren’t in my size, but when I saw the Sailor Mars purse, I knew I had to have it! It’s so perfect, a front pocket with a zipper, so nothing can fall out!
