2018 In Review + 2019 Goals

Hey Gang!

2019 is coming towards me like a speeding bullet and I am not at all ready. Are you ready for the new year? 2018 changed a lot of things for me. It showed me what I was capable of if I put my mind to it, what I could accomplish if I just tried something different. It also showed me that it was okay to not like something different if it wasn’t working for me. It’s okay, to know what works for you and to stick with what you are comfortable with. It’s even better and healthier for you to leave a situation which isn’t working for you or your mental health.

At the end of the day, it’s your health that is most important. What’s the point of having lots of money if you aren’t alive or healthy enough to spend it? I learned a very important life lesson from my unhappy situation, and I chose to be happy and leave it.

I want 2019 to be a year of creative growth and maturity for me. I want to do what I want, and spend time doing what makes me happy. 2019 will be the year of me for me. Exploring different avenues to finding the destination that will make me happiest. I feel like happiness is different for every person but for me, I think happiness is just doing what makes me happy, until… it doesn’t make me happy anymore. I know it doesn’t seem too profound, but for me it was definitely an eye opener.

I had a list of things I wanted to accomplish in 2018, here’s what I accomplished.

Getting 20 Bloglovin’ Followers, I ended up with 27 by the end of the year.

Getting 480 Instagram Followers, I ended up around 498/500, it’s been fluctuating for the last few days.

Making 3 costumes this year, I surpassed this goal by putting together 8 costumes for Halloween.

I generally surpass my tattoo goals every year, but this time I just hit it. My calf for my birthday, and my Clavicle for surviving 2018.

Goals for 2019

  1. I am fully focusing on my Youtube this year. My goal is 1 video/month, but I plan on doing one a week. I want to really grow my youtube, because I know I can make great content.

  2. I am beginning to shoot TFP and Book this year for Moriartie Studios. My Goal is one Paid shoot per month. If I can do that, then I can up it, and then I’d be able to do it full time, which is the dream, Obviously.

  3. I try not to focus on the numbers, I do like to try and hit a goal every year organically.

    A. Bloglovin’ 50 B. Instagram 500 C. Twitter 700 D. Twitch 20 E. Youtube 30 F. Facebook 70

  4. I want to make videos about my reading habits this year. I want to do Monthly PBR’s* and Wrapups.

  5. I want my studio to see the light of day this year. I’m planning for March, but I’ve got a lot of work ahead of me.

  6. Cross off Two tattoos from my list.

The New Studio

Hey Gang!

I know I mentioned it in my March Favorites, but I wanna talk about my studio redesign today. I live in a two bedroom house with my Boy Wonder, And we decided that I needed a studio to create in. He has half of the living room for his creative/gaming space and I got the back room. I look at all of these YouTube videos by other creatives where they show off their studios, and I’m just in awe. They’re always so cool, or so them. Their videos always show that Thier studio is an extension of themselves.

My Favorite to watch is Furry Little Peach’s First Studio Vlog. She has just finished a huge project and has decided to clean up and move around her studio. I generally am not finishing huge projects but there does come a time when I just feel like I need a change, I probably do it every four months or so.

My studio is my creative space, so I need it to inspire and motivate me to create, if it doesn’t then something is off and I’m on the hunt to move things around until it is on again. At the beginning of the year, I went to Ikea and got a real desk. Before that I was using a picnic table that definitely was beginning to fold under the weight of my computer, printer and the many trinkets I kept on it. I love my new desk, and the large right curve of it is perfect for crafting projects.

Despite how drastic the changes may look in the photos I only moved three things around. My desk, to the wall with the window, I am a SUCKER for natural light. I moved my white bookshelf to the corner and actually filled it with books. I love being able to actually look at the books I own, instead of having them haphazardly stacked everywhere. I moved my salvaged recliner from the window to the opposite wall, because it would work perfectly to watch movies on my computer, or curl up with Geronimo who enjoys perching on the top so he can look out of the window.

I’ve seen a lot of studio with clear walls and beautiful shelves, and while I love the look of it, I don’t think I could give up my posters. There’s just something about looking up from my desk and seeing fictional characters that inspire me, or beautiful artwork that motivates me to draw more, film a YouTube video, or write another blog post.

Taking a break from Nerdette At Large, caused a lot of things to stack up on me. I generally keep a journal that I keep all my to do lists in, but with so many things I wanted to write and videos I wanted to make, I thought a dry erase board on the wall, would help me stay just a bit more organized. It’s the first time, that I have actively used one and it is glorious! I write down everything on the board and then weekly I pull things off and put them in a notebook so I can work on them when I’m away from home.

5 Things I'm Thankful For.

 Hi Gang!

I wanted to get this post out on Friday, but Thanksgiving lasted longer than I expected. So it got shoved to Monday. I am working on my schedule this weekend, so hopefully, I can keep up with consistent content for the future.

I'm Thankful for my family. That I have one, that they are supportive, and that they are always there when I need them.

I'm thankful for the amazing opportunity that I have to write for publications. This year I have had the awesome experiences of writing for Heroes and Coffee, Quirktastic, Comicosity and Her Story Arc.

I'm super thankful for what a supportive audience I have for Nerdette At Large and Nerdette Minute. With so much silencing of opinions since someone reached office, I am so incredibly thankful that I have a platform for my hopes, thoughts, and dreams. Not only do I have a place to write about what ails me, but also what makes me happy. I have a place, for bringing to light grievances but also things that we need to advocate for. It's all mine, not sponsored and not overseen by anyone. I am not censored in any way and I am so thankful for that freedom. I'm even more thankful for the people who take time out of their day to read my content, watch my videos and follow me on social media.

I'm thankful for my relationship With the Boy Wonder surviving another year! We're almost at half a decade. *insert mushy thoughts here.*

Even though it drives me crazy. I am so thankful for the opportunity to have two jobs. It allows me to take care of all of my bills and extra money for things that I want.

What are some things you are thankful for? Let's Fangirl about it on Twitter!

Hey Spokhette! What's new?

Hi Gang!

I missed you guys! Sorry about that little break, my sister, mother and I took a week long vacation to the amazing state of California, checked out San Francisco and more. I've been wanting to move to California since I turned 18, so it was a dream come true vacation. I didn't get to explore as much as I wished I did, but it was definitely better than nothing. I was so excited about the vacation and the chance to brainstorm somewhere different, I didn't queue up any content for the week away and I apologize for that.

But! I'm back, and so is my content! After some deliberation and voting from the super helpful readers of my twitter feed, I have decided that I will keep doing Youtube Videos. I guess I was just having a rough patch because as soon as it was halfway through the voting process, I was like...I want to make another youtube video! Nerdette Minute is here to stay and will be updated every Thursday. Nerdette At Large will continue to update Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. I'm currently writing for Her Story Arc, a monthly series, Fangirling about Fictional Female Role Models and Quirktastic as a Geekery Intern. Soon you will be able to find my content on The Sonic Breakdown!

I've been reading a bunch since joining Goodreads and I'm on book 11 of my 40 this year challenge! I'm working on Elementary She Read by Vicki Delany and just recently finished The Perfect Husband by Lisa Gardner. It was AMAZING! The mystery kept me enthralled until the very end. You may have noticed my Instagram has turned a bit bookish over the last couple of weeks. I just don't take enough notes while reading to do entire blog posts about them, but I'm more than comfortable writing a few sentences in a caption, so you can find what I'm reading and what I like on Goodreads and Instagram if you're interested in that kind of stuff.

A lot of my traffic comes from Twitter. I've had twitter longer than most of my social media, it began in the early days of my blog and college career. I'm pretty opinionated on my blog but I'm unabashedly so on twitter. A close to my heart cause is Sexual Positivity. I write about it on Twitter a lot, and I'm very interested in introducing that to Nerdette At Large. This could be anything from interviews with other sex positive creators such as Feral Creature, Vex Ashley to personal thoughts on how sex positive women are viewed and their content utilized online.

In the Gaming category, I am currently working on Project X Zone for the 3DS and Root Letter/Sorcery Saga for the PSVita. You may be wondering why I am working backward in the PXZ series, see what had happened was... I had bought the original, a LONG time ago, and found myself unable to get into it. So it sat and sat and sat some more, and then I bought the 2nd one and it just seemed to move faster. So I picked it up, and never quite put it down. Now that I've finished it, I figured I should play the first one.  It definitely moves slower, but it's still pretty fun, I've just hit chapter 4, I'm being introduced to a bunch of characters that I've never seen before, but there are the crowd favorites like Morrigan, Chun li, Ryu, and Ken. I'm looking forward to getting to know the new guys.

What have you guys been up too? Let's Fangirl on Twitter about it!
