Hey Gang!
Television shows are one of my favorite things to talk about! You never know what’s going to happen? Sometimes you’ll be able to figure out the finale of your favorite shows, and then you’re like me, unsure and hanging on the edge of your seat and hoping for the best for your favorite characters. I’m going to talk about those programs today!

When I was younger, Lincoln Heights was one of my favorite series! I loved it! I loved the proud Black family that filled up the screen and reminded me of my own. I loved the drama that they had to deal with, and since I ruined my chance to actually go to high school, it was a great way to be there vicariously. Now I’m an adult, 27, to my 17, (HOLY CRAP !0 YEARS!) and I thought it would be a perfect time to re-watch the series, and see if anything changed how I felt about it.
Lincoln Heights follows the Sutton Family. Eddie, Father and Police officer for LHPD, Jennifer, An amazing Nurse Practicioner, Cassie, High School Student and Artist, Lizzie, Socially Concious Middle Schooler, and the Youngest, Tay, Also in Middle School and a budding Musician. They were sharing a two bed room apartment, until The Lincoln Heights Police Department did a drug bust in a house, and then put the house up for sale. Apparently, there was a program that allows officers to buy houses in Dangerous parts of town, for half market value to give the sense of community. You patrol here and you live here as well kind of vibe.
Lincoln Heights ran for four seasons, although off the top of my head, I can’t remember anything about the last season, and I’m not sure if I actually watched it or not, so i’m excited to get the opportunity to rewatch the series. This will be in two parts: One post will have thoughts from Seasons 1 - 3 and then the next post will have season 4.

Hey Gang!
I know I’ve talked about The Bold Type on here before. I thoroughly enjoy their feminist views and how the crew of main characters are trying to upgrade and push Scarlet into a future that many didn’t see coming. I wrote a pretty thorough post about my season one thoughts, and as much I definitely love watching this show I have something to say about Season 2.
In the episode Betsy, Jane discovers that Sutton has a shotgun named Betsy that she keeps in the apartment. Betsy is in pieces, in a locked case, and unloaded. Yet Jane has some serious things to say about Sutton and her guns. While I am definitely not the person you would come to for the defense of guns or their owners, however I just can not get with Jane and the way she handled the situation.
While you can’t say with a straight face that guns are safe. You can say that while guns are weapons that generally they are handled by people who know what they are doing and are licensed in their state. While I, personally am uncomfortable around people in a setting where its legal to open carry like Kentucky. I also understand that guns don’t kill people, people kill people.
Literally you can use anything within your eyes view to kill someone. While I am not a fan of guns, and don’t want to be around them, I am not going to demand that my absolute best friend get rid of her absolutely safe, un-put together shot gun, in its locked case that only she knows the combination too, and I think it’s unfair that Jane did that without even attempting to think about how Sutton would feel in her place.
I am also angry at the writers for taking such an easy and passe’ way about rectifying the situation. Jane is a writer, what better way to air her grievances than through an article? An article needs to be researched. I thought it was interesting that even though Jocelyn which is usually the voice of reason for Jane, told her that it is very one sided and seems very much like a rant, they still decided to end the episode with Sutton getting rid of her gun.
That just didn’t sit well with me. The show does such a good job of handling delicate situations and making you think about it as if you were in there shoes, they really dropped the ball on this episode.

Hey Gang!
I’m all about tv lately. I finished up Riverdale yesterday, and now I’m on the last episode of All-American. I haven’t talked about it on the blog before. All-American follows a teenaged football player from Crenshaw that gets the incredible opportunity to play for the Beverly Hils team. He gets the opportunity of a lifetime to make something more of himself, and this show deals with his trials, tribulations and the fact that he has to reconcile that his life will be split in half.
On the surface, another teen drama, but I love how real it is. I love watching the characters deal with all of their personal issues. The character development is so good, you really feel for the characters and their tangled personal relationships. You want them to win. You want them to succeed. You want them to go for that guy, you want your ship to exist. You want Coop to be accepted. You want Shawn to get off his ass, and do something on the more legal side not only for his daughter but for himself.
One of my favorite things about this show is that there isn’t that uncomfortable us vs. them mentality. At least not for very long. It is a running them with everyone else in the show but the main cast of characters are learning to move past that and work through their issues. Eventually everyone will be on the same side. I think the more fascinating aspect of the whole situation is watching them deal with how they will be better than those that came before them.
These last three episodes was an absolute Doozy. I was not prepared. My heart was not prepared. The heartbreak, the reemergence of alliances long thought forgotten. The loss of life. I think my favorite character so far has to be Coop. Watching her deal with her own sexuality and how it fits into her life and the life of her family. Her given and her chosen. I love her speeches. She cares so much for so many people and all she wants to do is see them be happy. To see them live up to their potential. She makes me want to get my own shit together. Plus her Sexuality isn’t her entire character. It is but an aspect to her very well rounded character, which is hard to find on television.
I just want to know what’s going to happen next? Will Olivia and Chris get together? Will Spencer and Leila ever be a real item? Will Coop ever recover from Shawn? What will happen to Maya? What are the next steps? Can Asher be forgiven? Will he be allowed back on the team? I don’t understand how he can be trusted after this particular betrayal. Now who tipped off the committee? When Jordan said he would be positive? BABY WHAT IS YOU DOIN’? Baker switching out the urine??? WHAT ARE WE DOING? I definitely thought Baker was his dad, but now it looks like he paid/blackmailed his dad to be out of the picture…

i’m Catching up on Riverdale and I have thoughts. First things first, It’s hard to believe that all the characters are 16 with what they have to deal with. Rounding up suspects for decade old murders, looking for clues that adults have missed, paying coroners under the table for access to old autopsy reports. Ya’ll know how much I love a good mystery and I am so deep in this show it isn’t even funny.
The writers are definitely fellow fans of mystery and horror. Am I the only one that noticed the Scream Parallel’s? Making Popcorn on the stove. Phone rings. Lights go out. Knocking on the door. With no one there. And Then FP climbing through the bedroom window? It definitely isn’t lost on me that it was FP chosen to make a visit. Especially since he’s just repeating a role he had before.
I’m pretty fed up with Archie. He is just determined to go somewhere off on his own and getting himself in danger, even though he doesn’t need to be. So many people used their time, energy and money to get him exonerated, and to help him get free only for him to turn around and throw sand in their faces. Once Veronica told him he was going to be exonerated, he should have turned his ass around and gone home. Plus, dragging Jughead with him? Away from Betty, right when she needed him? Not flipping Cool Archie.
What is up with Alice and her sense of Illusion? With everything that has happened with the Sisters of Quiet Mercy, how could she even think about them being a safe place for Betty? Here’s a hint, if the way to get in is to be dragged there, perhaps its not a place you want to keep your child. I definitely wasn’t prepared for the way that Quiet Mercy fit into Hiram’s endgame. It was pretty amazingly organized. Sure he’s hell incarnate, but you can’t ever say that he didn’t take something into consideration.
I was so excited to meet Jughead’s mom and sister. We heard so much about them, and I have been excited to see how they were going to come to life. Just throwing it out there, I absolutely need more JellyBean. She’s so capable, and she could be an absolute asset to the battle of wills in Riverdale.
Can we talk about the amount of money and lack of Moral Compass that Hiram actually harbors? He owns an entire town! Single handedly providing drugs to Children, and everyone in between. My first inkling that this was really going to go downhill, was when he mentioned they would build a jail and it would provide jobs that people needed. I’m sure it would, but literally, nothing bad was in Riverdale, until Hiram started pulling strings behind the scenes. Of course he would want to build a prison when he’s the one bringing in the crime!
It’s kind of hard to remember that the crew is literally 16 when you think about the things they’re going through. They’ve stood up to so many things in their small town, its hard to remember that they can’t vote, they can’t go to war, and that they can’t drink liquor. I think it’s an asset to the story line and plot that you can see the crew as a plausible squad of warriors going up against the ultimate evil, to keep their small town as safe as they can once evil has really wormed their way in.
I think that’s my favorite thing about Riverdale. Everyone sees it as a small sweet town, and while the center certainly is gooey, it is surrounded by an evil hardened shell, and while everyone thinks it can be kept safe by taking certain measures, at the end, evil creeps its way in, through the very channels that they were using to keep it safe.
I have had it up to HERE with The Sisters of Quiet Mercy. I thought they were bad, when Polly wanted to leave. I thought they were terrible when they kept Cheryl in conversion therapy, but these last two episodes have just really taken the cake. Allowing Hiram to send his drugs through the asylum to be used on broken children is really just over the top, and absolutely sick.
Also the bombshell that G & G was created and used in S.O.Q.M. blew my mind! How does it leave the asylum and become mainstream? Bettie becoming the Gryphon Queen?! DUDE, it was everything! I know they were trying to wrap up a few questions, but it only left me with more questions. Hows it get out? Who brought it out? Is Hiram the Gargoyle King? Did He murder everyone? Are the Legion of Doom, actually connected to the game from all the years ago? GAH!
There are so many moving pieces in this show, it’s kind of hard to keep up. I am so in love with the struggle though! I really enjoy foreign mysteries because they generally have double the layers of an American mystery any day, but Riverdale is really giving me a run for that thought.

Hey Gang!
Welcome to another year of Nerdette At Large, here’s to hoping it’s even better than the last. Today, we’re talking about another SYFY original series, Deadly Class. An adaptation of the graphic novel by Remender and Craig, the television show follows disillusioned homeless teen, Markus as he comes to grips with the opportunity presented by Kings Dominion. An academy that will teach him the deadly arts, show him how to use the pistol of justice to right political wrongs.
Now I’m not going to pretend that I knew this was going to become a show or that I was a fan. I didn’t read the comics, although I saw them on the shelf. When I saw the trailer for Deadly Class for the first time, I thought Saya was Cassandra Cain and I thought they were giving her a show, to say I was disappointed was an understatement, however, that was my own fault.
The show will premiere on the 16th of January on SYFY at 10p.m. Every Wednesday. They put the pilot on Youtube, which is genius if you ask me because I don’t have cable, so had I not seen the commercial while at work, I wouldn’t have known it had existed, with the tease of a full episode on Youtube, you’re effectively bringing in a large group of people to watch it when it premieres, including me!
I’m excited to see exactly what the main cast will get up to in this series. I think its pretty unique to have so many different types of people come together with one common purpose. Sure that purpose is to murder, but hey, you can’t win them all. Just like every high school, the students are split up into factions, but the main cast includes: Marcus, the rat (no affiliation), everyone thinks he burned down the boys home he belonged to in order to escape the horrors he received there. Maria, part of the Sato Vito’s, and dating the asshole Chico, Willie, the Leader of the F.W.O, Saya, Marcus’ sponsor and head of the Kuruoki syndicate.
My favorite characters so far are definitely Saya, Marcus and Petra. I’m hoping to see big things from her in the near future. While I didn’t read the comics, I knew they were a bit on the gory and violent side, I wondered how they would get away with it on SYFY, but they seem to be doing a good job so far. We probably won’t see the mutilated corpses of their victims, but hey beggars can’t be choosers. I’m pretty pleased with the lack of censorship I saw in the pilot.
Will Marcus accomplish his ultimate goal? Will Willie overcome his fear? Will Saya kiss Marcus again? Will Petra get more speaking parts? If Murder is a class assignment what’s the dissertation? These are all of the questions I have after watching the pilot and I hope to see a few of them solved in the next episode.
