March Favorites

 Hey Gang!

You may have noticed that things look a little different around here. I took a small break from blogging. I had been doing it the same way for so long that I guess I just got a little burned out. It was almost a month break but Now I’m revitalized and ready to start again! Since I barely blogged all month, here are a few of the things I loved this month.

The Spy Who Loved Cookies. A Parody by Sesame Street played by Cookie Monster. The Crown cookies have been stolen and the Double Stuffed Seven is on the case! Do yourself a favor and go watch it, you won’t regret it.

For the first time I used a Paper Guillotine, I don’t know about anyone else but it’s completely stressful. My Parents used to both work at Kinko’s so it was no big deal for them, but watching the blade hover over my photography business Flyers, literally gave me so much anxiety that I almost cried. But the fact that I got to walk around talking about I guillotined my flyers was pretty cool.

I started watching Furry Little Peach’s first Studio Tour again, I think it might be my favorite video of hers. Every time I watch it I just get so inspired! Unfortunately for me, I started watching it at about 2 am, so I spent the next four hours remodeling my studio. Moving Furniture, and reorganizing my bookshelf which was really fun.

I’ve been drawing a lot more this month, since I wasn’t spending the time writing. I drew some He-Man, Ghoul School and Scooby Doo Characters. I turned them into bears, and I really like them, I think I might go back and add some designs on the side and maybe make them into a sticker. I love drawing in Adobe on my pro, it’s so easy and I just always have it with me. I don’t like to do digital too much, so I switch back and forth pretty often.

When I bought the Switch, I bought Super Mario Oddessy and Bomberman R. I started playing Mario as soon as I got home and got stuck in the same spot for like a month and half. I took a break and started playing it again a couple of weeks ago and just completed the New Donk City Level! Pauline should definitely be in the new Smash Bros. I can’t wait for that, it would be amazing to play on the switch.

Monthly Favorites: Feb '18

Hey Gang!

Yet another month has bit the dust! 2018, was speeding by, but I feel like February definitely slowed down a bit for me. I got a quite a few things done this month, and I can't wait to tell you about it.

The biggest thing for this month would have to be getting to See Black Panther on Thursday Night! I absolutely loved the film, and I'm still gathering my thoughts to write about it because I honestly just don't want to break the magic spell.

I got two different colors in my hair this month. Light Periwinkle blue for most of the month, and then silver towards the end. I just feel so good, when my hair is colored, I can't really explain why, but it definitely does something for me.

I shot so much film this month! I got two different sets of film prints back! If you count the two rolls that crapped out on me, I shot 8 rolls of film this month. I just really love going out and exploring my city and capturing it through film. The anticipation of waiting for my prints to come back is definitely one of my favorite parts.

I upgraded my iPad mini to a 9.7 Ipad Pro. I AM SO IN LOVE! I got a serious case with a keyboard and a stylus so I can do more art on the go. I've been churning out some pretty neat t-shirt designs lately, and I want to start doing more painting lately.

I streamed for the first time in a while this month. I finished an entire mystery on my twitch stream a couple of days ago. It took me practically 3 hours. I was getting frustrated but glad that I stuck with it because it was a pretty neat experience. I can't wait to stream the next mystery. Make sure you follow me so you don't miss out when I go live! *shameless plug*

I visited a cemetery for the first time in a while with My friend Sheneal so she and I could both practice portraiture. I enjoy photography, but I don't get a lot of practice on actual people, so I'm always overjoyed when people want me to photograph them.

I got my Pokemon pins from Ieafy. They're shipping from Australia, so it takes quite a bit of time to actually get to me. I bought three: Ferret, Minun and Plusle, and Alolan Raichu because of DUH. They are so adorable and I absolutely love them.

Boy Wonder finally got around to building the shelving units I bought from Ikea. We didn't think they would be wide enough to hold the tv, so I bought two, but they totally were, so they took up practically the entire wall, and we still need to buy more because there isn't enough room for all of our DVDs. *sigh*

For Valentines Day, Boy Wonder got me a body sized frog. It is as tall as I am, and I drag it around the house. If I'm gaming on the couch, I'm laying on it. If I'm lounging in my chair and watching a stream, it's there, and if I'm going to bed, I lay it over the two pillows on my side of the bed and I sleep on him. He doesn't have a name yet, but he's so soft!

January Favorites '18

 Hey Gang!

Can you believe that January is over? Because I can't! Where is the time going? I thought 2017 went fast but it looks like 2018 is going to try to surpass it. A lot of things happened this month that I wasn't really able to blog about but that is one of my favorite things about monthly favorites is that anything you couldn't fit in you can just word dump at the end. I have a lot of pictures that I take throughout the month that isn't enough for an entire blog post but can be fun with multiple ones!

Here are a few things I loved this month.

 - Getting my film developed.  I did a whole video about how my pictures turned out but I was very excited about getting four rolls developed, even when only one and a half turned out. It was my very first time, and there are some things that I had to learn the hard way, but that's the best way for me. I'm definitely a physical learner.

- Playing through the Uncharted Series. I bought the Nathan Drake Collection which includes the first three for the PS4 and then I bought Uncharted four. I've played the first one on the ps3, but since I want to do the PlayStation 4 more, and I want to be ready for any new games that come out, and the quality is definitely better. I'm 60% through Drake's Fortune right now.

- Getting a New Desk.  I finally bit the bullet and got an Ikea desk. I was using a foldable picnic table for the longest time at least the last four years, and I am very glad to have a steady place to create. The desk is WAY bigger than I was expecting, but I am so in love with it.

- Redoing my Photography Site. I decided to redo Checkmate Photo, I talk about it in Monday's post. I wanted to do something different, and I love it. Before, it came off as a brand or a business, and although I occasionally do shoot for profit, I wanted it to be more of a journey and blog than a website for booking. Now it is, plus you can see my portfolio by year, which is something I'm really proud of.

- Reading 4 books This Month. I not only read four books this month, but I also reviewed them on Goodreads! I'm pretty proud of that, it's about a book a week! I read Alive by Chandler Baker, Die For You by Amy Fellner Dominy, Consent by Nancy Ohlin, and Truly Madly Deadly by Hannah Jayne.

- Ordering Pins from @kaiami. I bought four pins, the Cat Ghost, Witch, Jellyfish UFO, and Her side Profile with Bubblegum. Her logo gives me major Pink Ladies Vibes and I LOVE IT! They arrived super fast, and even came with a pair of embroidered socks!

December Favorites

Hello Gang!

I can't believe it's 2018! We survived the year! We survived Trump! I am so excited to have a fresh start this year, and I have so many ideas for Nerdette At Large this year, that my head and my notebooks are reeling! Here are a few of the things I loved in the month of December!

Actually getting into Film Photography. I've had 2 film cameras for a while, but I haven't really done anything with them because I didn't know of any places that could develop my film. Then I went into Walgreens one day, and I asked them if they developed film, and they said yes, but it would take two weeks. I was pretty excited about that, but then I discovered a mom and pop shop that developed film in store! If I dropped it off on Monday, then I could pick it up on Wednesday, and they were right down the street! I took my K1000 in and they showed me how to load film, and how to use it. It hasn't left my side since. The first Monday I'll be able to drop it off is the 8th, and I already have 3 rolls of film ready! I've been so inspired by KingJvpes and WildWeRoam that I've been going out almost every day to shoot something different.

Finally getting business cards for Checkmate Photo. I've decided that I really want to go full tilt this year when it comes to photography and my side hustle. I want to start working on my portfolio, I want to do Portraits, and I FINALLY want to start working on my secret project, I've had it in my head for years, and now I'll actually have time to get to it. I am also in love with how awesome my business cards look! I got them done with Vista Print. Highly Recommend.

Finishing Rizzoli and Isles. It was a bittersweet Farewell. I had been on Season 7 for a while, but I wasn't ready for it to end, so I kept putting it off. I finally decided to watch the last thirteen episodes, and the finale was so self-aware, I cried. That's a good show to me. This series made me cry twice! When they memorialized Frost after his actor committed Suicide and the finale. I highly recommend this show, you can watch the whole thing on Hulu, don't miss out!

Coming back to knitting. While in Michael's for a Christmas Gift, Boy Wonder bought me a book about winter accessories that look like animals,(of course I fell in love instantly) I bought Yarn and Needles to complete the Bear Snood. It will be my very first project done from a pattern. I've always been a freeform knitter, but I am determined to learn how to read patterns and start churning out completed items. I knitted a successful Gauge for my project, and I'm pretty excited about that since it's the first time I've ever done it.

November Favorites

Hi Gang!

I can't believe it is the first! December came so flippin' fast, but I am very ready and the Christmas spirit has definitely captured me. Boy Wonder and I put up the Christmas tree as soon as people left Thanksgiving Night. I really wanted to do it differently because we have a bad habit of zooming through December and then like the week before Christmas we're like HEY! We gotta put up that tree! So this year, I did it a week before December and I feel no shame. Here are a few things I loved this Month.

- I successfully hosting Thanksgiving for 17 in my home this year. There was room for everyone, only a couple of people forgot things, nothing burned, and everyone left before 11 p.m. I consider that a pretty awesome success.

IMG_3219 (2).JPG

- Patting myself on the back for cleaning up as soon as everyone left and set up the christmas tree. My favorite thing about it is this picture of my cat, Kahn, who waited exactly 3 minutes before climbing into it and making herself at home.

- Buying a banner for my Slytherin Pride. I picked it up from Hot Topic, and it was probably the first time I'd ever walked in there and spent less than 40 dollars. I was very proud of myself.

- I got a Samsung S 8+! I am so in love you guys! I broke my already barely functioning Note 4 in July and I had been hopping from temp to temp, before landing on this beauty. I love the way it feels in my hands, the pictures are absolutely stunning, and it's fully functional, so I'm able to update social media on the go, snapchat whenever I like, don't have to worry about losing gps signal, and don't have to worry about people getting text messages hours after I sent them. It is amazing ya'll.

- I bought a Nintendo Switch! I didn't buy it when it came out because I didn't really want any of the games that it launched with. However, now that it has been out since March, they are starting to have a more diverse amount of games for it. I bought it with Bomberman, and Mario Odyssey. I'm also a huge fan of how you can buy indie games from the E-shop. I bought Magical Drop 2, which is the predecessor of my favorite puzzle game of all time. For Christmas, I think I'll pick up Pokken Tournament and Arms. I just couldn't justify dropping 500$ on games on a random day in November... I have an unboxing of it on my channel!

- I'm starting to get back into art. I wanted 2017 to be a more creative year, and I did a decent job, but one of the things that I've gotten back into is drawing. I bought a sketchbook and I wanted to fill it throughout the year. I did pretty well up until May and then it starts to get real scarce. I watch quite a few artists on youtube, and Fran had introduced me to watercolor brush pens. So they take a little bit of water and with a watercolor pallette you can take them on the road with you. I even went all the way and bought a specific book just for watercolors.

- Starting the Pokemon A Day Challenge. I'm sure in some compacity this challenge exists somewhere in the world. However, as I said previously, I wanted to start drawing more. So the Boy Wonder came up with the brilliant idea of giving me a pokemon (or group) every day and I have to draw them. We started on the 16th, and I've done 19 so far. I'm three behind as of writing this. This challenge has definitely gotten me to start bringing my sketchbook with me everywhere, and drawing a little bit every day even if I don't completely finish the drawing in the allotted 24 hours.

- I discovered a few new YouTubers this month. Furry Little Peach, is a channel by Sha'an d'Anthes, who is an artist, I love her videos. She's very bubbly and she shows you sneak peeks of upcoming art, and how she goes about it. I'm in love with her studio vlogs. BooksandLala, a Booktuber, I love her unique videos and the one that attracted me the most was the one where her husband buys 5 books for her with no guidance. I'd love to see how well Boy Wonder would do. Leigh Ellexson, who is an artist in Ohio, near me, I'm always so excited when I find other creatives and content creators near me. Her videos are adorable and light, and she also does studio vlogs and shows you her art.

October Favorites

Hi Gang!

Aiyah! It feels so good to be back. I have definitely been slacking on the blogging and I have missed it so much, I think I just needed a little break. With the two jobs, and trying to be an adult, I definitely lost track of my blog and my youtube channel. With my second job wrapping up for the season though, I will have way more time to create and thought I would try and slide as many posts in as I could before I go back to full-time content creation, which I missed so so much. I didn't get a lot of content in for the month of October, but I did get to do a few things, so here are my favorite things!

 - I got a new tattoo on Halloween. A Lot of artists and shops have flash sales on Halloween and Friday the 13th, so I called up Khris, and asked if he had any deals and he did! So I went in and got Momo the cat on my shoulder, and I am so so excited about it. I got a new place tattooed, so it's taking a minute to heal, but google's Halloween mascot has just affected me so much, that I had to get her permanently attached. If you don't know who Momo the Cat is, do yourself a favor and play last years game, and watch this year's video!

- This year's Google Doodle really caught my heartstrings. After watching how Momo handled Jinx the ghost, I knew she needed to be a tattoo. This doodle is really about being accepted, and when I was younger it was something I wanted so desperately. I love this video so much, so definitely make sure you watch it if you haven't checked it out already.

- For the first time, I used markers and paint on my pumpkins. As I'm sure you are well aware, Halloween is one of my favorite holidays, but Pumpkin Carving isn't one of my favorite things to do. We went to Michaels for Halloween decorations and they had a 60% sale on their plastic pumpkins. I picked up a black and a white one, and pretty much all month, the Boy wonder and I hemmed and hawed about what we should do with them. About a week before Halloween, we came up with the brilliant idea to paint them like Jason and Batman. So I used art Markers from Amazon to create Jason from a picture online, and then I attempted to paint the batman symbol but the markers weren't showing up on the black pumpkin, so then I really used my noggin, and I dug out our acrylic paints and as I was looking up Batman, I had the BRILLIANT idea to do Blacula instead, and if you don't know who that is, please, educate yourself, everyone needs Blacula in their lives. This was the first time painting in so long, but I was super pleased with how it turned out.

 - I got a brand new instant camera this month. The Lomography Lomo'Instat South Beach edition. I know what you're thinking, why are you purchasing an old media? The simple reason? I LOVE CAMERAS and I LOVE PHOTOGRAPHY. It's an old media, but Instax film is still very easy to purchase and find so it isn't obsolete yet, and damnit ya'll there is just something about film. I love this camera a lot more than the Instax mini 8 because I can take selfies AND it came with 5 different lenses for me to play with! So, of course, I couldn't leave it on the shelf. I picked it up from Barnes and Noble, and since its purchase, I've almost gone through an entire pack of instant film. Which is great, seeing as I have only used three packs since receiving the Instax Mini for my birthday a year ago. Don't worry, It will have its own post I've been dying to talk about it.

 - Walking into Gamestop and buying Alolan Raichu and Layton's Mystery Journey. You guys know how I have been feeling about the adorable Alolan versions of Pokemon for Pokemon Sun and Moon! The Raichu has to be one of my favorites because even though they're an electric Pokemon they're alolan and they surf on their tail, and they LOVE PANCAKES! It's Canon, trust me. I definitely couldn't leave him on the shelf, and then I told myself that I would only get him, but then I saw the new Layton game on the shelf, and I knew I couldn't leave without it. I was on my way to work, so of course, I opened Katrielle and the Millionaire's Conspiracy and played it during the shift, even though I'm technically still in the middle of Diabolical Box story wise.

- The Season 2 premiere of Riverdale! YAAAAAS! I waited so long for this you guys. I love the dark air that the story is taking, I'm loving that Jughead is coming into his own with the gang even without his father, I love how crazy Cheryl is becoming, this season is shaping up to be pretty wild, and I'm definitely ready for the ride.
