Novels #29: Reading in December

Hey Gang!

I made a reading challenge for 2018. I wanted to challenge myself to read 40 books this year. Last year, I also wanted to read 40 books, but I only made it to 24. I’m doing really well this year though, I only have 3 books left. There’s still 12 days of reading left in 2018 and I’m determined to complete my challenge.

The three books on my list right now is White Water Terror by Carolyn Keene, Misadventures with a Professor by Sierra Simone and Dirty Pleasure by Meghan March. I’m hoping that I don’t get bored with any of them, because otherwise, it will push me back further from my goal.

I finished Hit and Run Holiday last night, and wanted to just dive right in. I am so in love with the Nancy Drew Case Files, and I wish they were easier to find! At this point, I’ve got to purchase them on Kindle, Ebay or Amazon, because the Library only has a few and none of them are consecutive. White Water Terror has George win a giveaway, which includes four free tickets for a white water rafting trip. I can’t wait to see what kind of shenanigans the crew gets into, because the last book had murder, which is always good in my book.

Misadventures with a Professor is a erotic story about a graduate student who decides she doesn’t want to be a virgin anymore and starts up a relationship with a professor. I’ve only gotten to chapter three, I’m not sure if the professor will become her professor, but its just a feel good, dirty novel so far. Something I really enjoy reading.

Dirty Pleasure is the second novel in Dirty Billionaire Trilogy. Dirty Billionaire is another erotic novel about a country star, who is in a false relationship with another much bigger Country Star. She wins a singing competition and gets a million dollar contract with a big record label. She’s on tour with another legend, when she has a one night stand with a billionaire, and the rest they say is history. I listened to the first one on audio book and it went really fast and I enjoyed it more than I thought I would which lead to my love for Meghan March. I completed two of her series in less than a week. I was obsessed.

Novels #28: Book Haul #9

Hey Gang!

I haven’t really been talking books lately but I have been reading and buying them non-stop. Which is actually terrible because I bought this group of books from Half Price Book almost 3 months ago and then found them a couple of days ago, when I was doing my weekly clean up of my studio.

I think subconciously I was thinking I would pick these up to read for October because all of them have a spooky tilt to them. I have read There’s someone in your house already, and I loved it so much I bought it. Twisted is written by the same author who did Truly, Madly, Deadly and I knew I had to get it.

I think the very first novel in this group I’ll be reading will be Twisted by Hannah Jayne and then probably moving onto The Morganville Vampires. I haven’t read a novel with villains in quite a while and I kind of miss it. What better way than to pick up a novel for half the price and hope for the best?!

Spokhette On Youtube #85: A Week of Book Hauls

Hey Gang!

I took a bit of a break from Youtube a couple of months ago. I needed to gather my wits and replenish my creative energy. I’ve taken the break to create some new videos and perhaps even try something new! I went a little crazy three weeks ago and grabbed quite a few novels from Amazon for my brand new and completely empty bookshelves I had picked up. I wanted to do more bookish content, so I thought it would be fun to film what I got and talk about why I ordered them.

This video follows a school week, so books arrived on Monday - Friday. Here are a few of the novels I received.

  • I Dreamed I Married Perry Mason by Susan Kandel

  • A Study In Charlotte by Brittany Caravallo

  • A Curious Beginning by Deanna Raybourn

  • The Dark Stairs by Betsy Byars

Watch the video for all of the titles I purchased, and let me know what you bought! I love adding books to my TBR. Don’t forget to like and subscribe!

Novels #27: Book Haul #8

 Hey Gang!

I've been reading! I know I don't talk about books on here often, but that's because all of my reviews go on Goodreads. I just am not one for repeating content. I've just recently hit up the library and got a few awesome titles. Here's what I got.

I picked up the Black Top Series by Lj Alonge. I haven't read them yet, because I can't figure out which one is supposed to come first, Janae, Toni or Justin. The Lovely Reckless by Kami Garcia, Batgirl Rebirth Vol. 3, She-Hulk Vol. 1, Batman Brave and the Bold (Bronze Age) Vol.1,  Archie: The New Riverdale Vol. 1, and Jughead Vol 1.

I'm currently in the middle of reading Ultraviolet by R.J. Anderson and The "New" Teen Titans, by Marv wolfman and George Perez. This is the quintessential Teen Titan series everyone keeps raving about but I'm not seeing it. It's a little dated, so I have to stop and look up references and Beast Boy is a mysoginistic Loser in this. I'm about 1/4 of the way done, and honestly I don't really know how much more I'll be able to stomach.

Currently on my Goodreads are three new reviews! Dead and Breakfast, Doom with a View by Kate Kingsbury and This is Our Story by Ashley Elston.

Novels #25: Book Haul #6

Hey gang!

I had the awesome chance to stop by Half Price Books the other day. I was looking for a used java manual. I didn’t come across any that would help, because we’re running Java 10 and the most updated book was for 6, but I decided to tak a look around anyway, and I found quite a few novels in the Ya section. They had a whole slew of L.J. Smith collections, but I’m specificallly looking for Dark Visions and they never have it! I read it from the library once when I was younger, after finishing the original run of Vampire Diaries, and I fell in love, I must have checked it out several times after it, and even after all this time, I still remember specific sections of the novels. I need to add it to my collection.

I want to have my own collection of books, even though I read way too fast to make it viable. I’ll have read the books and then they sit there, unless I want to read them again? Where as getting them from the library costs no money unless you’re late to return them and then you move on. I feel like Half Price Books is the perfect alternative, because when you’re done with them you can even sell them back! Plus, they’re super affordable to begin with!

I picked up The Fallen Series part one, which includes The Fallen and Leviathan by Thomas Sniegoski. I remember the terrible mini series on Abc Family, I’m hoping that it is super loosely based on the books, and that the books will be better, because 90% of the time it’s true.  Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl, because I’ve watched the movie 80 bajillion times and I really love it, and if a movie based off a book is really good then generally the book is great.

Marie Antoinette, Serial Killer by Alender because Look at that title, what more could you need? Generation Dead by Daniel Waters, at this point I had been looking at books that either dealt with death, supernatural creatures or the undead, why not continue? Finally, I picked up Swoon by Nina Malkin, which is presented as a super dark, and twisted love story between a psychic teen and a vengeful spirit who takes over her cousins body. Yeah, I definitely don’t need to delve any deeper with that one. Also needless to say, I’m currently reading Swoon.

I went out with my friend Robin the other day, we ended up at Walmart, and they had a copy of Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur, which I’ve had my eyes on for a while. I had to pick it up before it slipped away again, and I proceeded to finish it in an hour. It’s a book of poetry split into four parts, Hurt, Love, Healing, and Relationships. It was so good, but it made me kind of sad as well.

My favorite line is “Our backs tell stories no books have the spines to carry.”

Novels #24: Book Haul #5: Lois Lane and More

Hey Gang!

I know it's been a little while since I talked about Novels on here, but that doesn't mean I hadn't been reading. I put a bunch of Nancy Drew All Girl Detective on hold at the e-library, and all of them came at the same time, and I didn't get the chance to get through them all.

There are reviews on Nancy Drew Flight Risk, The Paris Affair and Lois Lane Fall out on Goodreads, if you wanna check them out. I also got Give The Devil His Due, but it's the third one in the series, and the other two weren't available, so I'll have to add it to my list and read it another time.

I'm currently reading Nancy Drew Files Case 5, Hit and Run Holiday. I generally try and cycle through all of the Nancy mysteries, but I think the more adult nature of the case files series, is what keeps bringing me back to them. I love the hints of romance and the much more adult themed mysteries that are found in this series, compared to the other two.
