If you've been with me for a while, you'll know that I am a ginormous detective nerd. I love detective novels, comic books, video games, anime, and cartoons. If there is a mystery to solve, I'm interested. I've been a fan of Scooby-Doo since I was a little girl. My single favorite movie is STILL Scooby-Doo and The Reluctant Werewolf. I have three copies of it. I know it front and backward. I can quote it from memory.
Thanks to the amazingness of the internet, I have been able to find the series that I had been missing. From '84-'86, There are three seasons of Scooby and Scrappy-doo show that I hadn't seen. I have found and watched them. This urge to watch all of the episodes didn't just pop up randomly. About 2 and a half years ago now, Alex and I finished Mystery Incorporated, A rather recent rendition of the beloved series. There are two things about Mystery Incorporated that make it special. We were so disappointed that they didn't get a third season. We were finally going to see the gang go off to college. But I digress, I've actually written about my love for Scooby Doo in three other posts, here here and here.
1. It is the only series to have a story arc. Each episode leads into another. 2. It is an homage to everything that came before it. It features nods, gags, and even older characters that came before, my favorite being Vincent Van Ghoul.
So when we finished both seasons, it renewed my love for Scooby-Doo, as an avid Pokemon fan, I decided that I just had to watch them all. I decided that I wanted to start my journey from the very beginning. I currently own: All of Where are you Scooby Doo?, All of 13 Ghosts of Scooby Doo, All of New Scooby-Doo Movies, What's New Scooby Doo Seasons 1-2, and Scooby and Scrappy-Doo Seasons 1-2.
In fact, there are only 4 1/2 series left that I haven't been able to finish, or even find to watch. Scooby and Shaggy Get a Clue, Be Cool Scooby-Doo, I consider it half because there is only one season of What's New Scooby Doo that I haven't seen and that doesn't constitute as an entire series, A Pup Named Scooby-Doo and The New Scooby-Doo Mysteries. The only one I haven't been able to find in it's entirety is The New Scooby-Doo Mysteries. I originally wasn't going to watch Scooby and Shaggy Get a clue, or Be Cool Scooby Doo, because the art style wasn't what I was used to, and I was pretty upset that they would mess with something so iconic.
But at the end of the day, I can not say I've seen them all if I've left some behind. The New Scooby-Doo Mysteries originally ran during the 80's, which you can tell by the theme song and the style of clothing the gang is found in. Also, this series only features, Scooby, Scrappy, Shaggy, and Daphne for some reason. I have only been able to find one or two episodes, and even though they don't keep a continuous story arc, you still want to watch them in order.
My mission for 2018 is to find the rest of the seasons and complete Scooby Doo. I'm kind of glad that it has taken me this long because I really love Scooby-Doo and I honestly don't want it to end. I'm kind of glad that I have so many seasons left because even though it probably resembles about 131 episodes, that isn't really that much to get through. I'm excited to add this accomplishment to my belt, but it will be a sad day when it's all over.
